Club Eden Safer Spaces Policy
The Safer Place to Dance, Party, Play. (est. 2006)
At Club Eden, your safety, autonomy, and comfort are not just priorities, they’re foundational. As a femme-forward, consent-driven, members-only nightlife community, we offer a curated space for connection, transformation, and sensuality rooted in mutual respect.
1. Our Commitments
- Certified Safety Training: All Eden staff are trained and certified by Good Night Out Vancouver in nightlife safety, sexual violence prevention, and drink spiking awareness.
- Vetted Membership Only: Eden is a private space. All members complete an application and approval process. Male-identified applicants must attend with and be sponsored by a current female or femme-identifying member in good standing.
- Queen of Consent: Every event features a designated consent ambassador stationed at the entrance to the playstations. Report concerns, no questions asked. We believe you, and we act quickly. Each report is upheld against our Consent Culture Manifesto and steps are taken in alignment.
- Consent Education: Through our ongoing “Consentication” series, we promote and normalize enthusiastic, informed consent with signage, social media, and live workshops.
- Hydration & Harm Reduction: Free water is always available, along with safer play supplies and sanitizer. Playstations are cleaned and stocked throughout the night.
2. Membership and Attendance Elligibility
To ensure a safer and more inclusive environment:
- Membership applications are subject to administrative review and approval.
- To protect the integrity of our femme-prioritized, consent-based environment, individual members identifying as male may only attend events as a guest of, and in the physical company of, a current female or femme-identifying member in good standing unless otherwise stated on a specific event page.
- Club Eden reserves the right to deny access to any applicant who misrepresents their identity or intentions. We welcome all gender identities who authentically align with our safer space values.
- All members must complete a safety orientation on arrival to your first event.
These requirements are instituted for the legitimate objective of protecting the physical and emotional well-being of members, many of whom identify with historically marginalized or vulnerable populations. These measures are consistent with the Canadian Human Rights Act, which permits differential treatment in service of achieving equity or protecting safety.
3. Expectations of Members & Guests
- Consent is Mandatory for all physical, sexual, and social interactions. Always ask before engaging with someone. No words? No go. All members are required to agree to and adhere to our Consent Culture Manifesto.
- Prior consent does not constitute ongoing consent. All interactions must be re-negotiated each time.A previous “yes” does not carry forward.
- Read the Room—and the Body Language. If someone seems hesitant or withdrawn, move along. Enthusiastic consent is the standard. Non-verbal cues (e.g., hesitation, silence, closed body language) must be interpreted as a lack of consent.
- Bullying and Harassment-Free Zone.
- Discrimination, harassment, coercion, misgendering, and other forms of inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated.
- Respect All Genders & Sexualities. Eden is an inclusive space that welcomes LGBTQ2+ communities. Misgendering, discrimination, or fetishization will not be tolerated.
- Report It. Now. Witness something off? Report it to the designated safety ambassador ("Queen of Consent"), present at each event and located at the entrance to the playstations. Any concerns or reports may be made anonymously and without question to this representative or to any staff member. We operate from a "believe-first" framework and act swiftly in accordance with our zero-tolerance stance.
4. Accessibility
Club Eden is committed to creating inclusive, safer spaces where all guests feel respected and supported. We acknowledge that accessibility is a vital part of inclusion.
Most of our events are hosted at a private venue that, while central and ideal for our community’s needs, has limited accessibility for guests who use mobility devices. Access may involve stairs.
Because venues that permit SOP events and align with our consent-based safety policies are extremely limited, we are transparent about these constraints so you can make informed decisions.
If you have specific accessibility needs or questions, please reach out to us in advance. While we can’t guarantee full accessibility at every event, we will always do our best to support your experience with care and compassion.
6. Washrooms
Our washroom policy reflects the diverse needs of our members, and prioritizes the comfort and safety of those most vulnerable to discomfort, intrusion, or harm in nightlife and SOP environments.
Here's how it works:
- Private All-Gender Washrooms are available for anyone who prefers privacy or needs space to freshen up solo.
- Our Femme-Only Washroom is reserved for women, trans women, and femme-identifying non-binary guests who need a calm, clean, and safe place to reset. This space exists to offer dignity and comfort without the fear of being watched, interrupted, or made to feel unsafe.
- An All-Gender Washroom is available to everyone, including cis men, with clear behavior expectations to maintain respect and safety for all users.
5. Zero Tolerance Policy
Club Eden reserves the right to deny or revoke membership, and to remove any attendee—without refund—who violates this policy or disrupts the integrity of our space. We are not an open venue. We are a curated, values-driven community.
Club Eden reserves the right to:
-
Deny entry to any applicant or guest whose presence is deemed to conflict with our mission of creating a safer, consent-forward environment.
-
Revoke membership, without refund, for any breach of this policy.
-
Remove any individual from an event, without warning or refund, who violates this policy or disrupts the integrity of our space at the discretion of management or staff.
These terms are consistent with our rights and obligations as a private organization operating under British Columbia’s Human Rights Code and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
6. Scope
This policy applies to all members, guests, staff, volunteers, and performers participating in any Club Eden event or on our website.
